Dr. Willie Ree Howell, instrumental in the formation of the
Foundation, now serves as its treasurer.
She is a native
of Mississippi and received her BS degree in biology at
Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. She immediately
furthered her education at the University of Mississippi
School of Medical Technology, then years later received her
MD degree from the University of Mississippi School of
Medicine.
After completing her family practice residency at Floyd
Medical Center in Rome, GA, she was employed as an emergency
physician at Rome and area hospitals until her retirement in
2005.
For a short time in 1997, she served as a volunteer
physician at Baptist Medical Center,, Nalerigu, Ghana.
She continues to serve at various sites on a volunteer
basis.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Charles, Howell, in
1954. They are very proud of their descendants:
one son, three daughters, 12 grandchildren, and five
great-grandchildren. they are active members at First
Baptist Church in Cave Spring, GA.
Dr. Howell enjoys cooking, gardening, traveling, and
continuing education, but most of all, she enjoys time with
her family.
