Paul
Shumpert, M.D. and his wife Cindy, also an M.D., are the current
President and Vice President, respectively, of the Foundation.
Paul received his BS in biology from Emory University in
Atlanta, while Cindy earned her BS in nursing from the
University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. They both
received their MDs from Emory.
Both did their family practice
residency at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia and have been
Board Certified in family practice since 1988.
From 1988 - 2002, they had
their own private family practice and have served as ER
physicians since 2002.
Cindy retired from active
practice in 2008 but continues to volunteer for mission work
overseas and in the US. Paul is working as an ER physician at
Polk Medical Center in Cedartown, GA.
Both Shumperts have made
multiple short-term volunteer trips to Ghana and Peru.
They were married since the mid-1980s. They have two sons,
two daughters-in-law, and three grandchlidren.
They both enjoy backpacking
(they did the Appalachian Trial on and off during 2004-2006).
