March 16, 2020 Minutes

Meeting minutes from March 16, 2020 6:30 PM

The Board of the George Faile Foundation met at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020, at the office of Lee Jennings.  Present were Peter Faile, George Faile, Paul and Cindy Shumpert, Lee Jennings, and Martha Cates. Paul opened the meeting with prayer.

With the coronavirus pandemic occurring, there are cancellations of planned trips to the BMC.  The guest house will lose income from those who planned to stay there. Hopefully, this loss will not be too significant.  Adeline, who was the cook from the Guest House in Accra, is currently at BMC. She will be handling the cooking at the guest house for now.  It was decided that she will also provide one meal a day for the Ghanaian doctors who are currently working at BMC. There are 2 who are temporarily assigned there, and 2 more permanent (one of whom is Dr. Isabella for whom we paid medical school expenses.)

Of the two generators, the newer one is not working. It will take approximately $6000 to repair the problem.  We will try to get this done. Public Health uses motorcycles to go out into the areas. They want two new ones since the ones they have now are old.  Francis thinks he can get two for about $2500. The nursing office needs a copier for sending records when needed. It should cost about $300. The Nutrition Center needs a small refrigerator.  We should be able to get one for about $200. All of these will be funded.

The microscope in the lab is old and has a problem with the light source.   Also Maternity wants to set up an Operating Room there for C-sections. They will need an OR table for this.  Cindy will investigate getting these 2 items.

There is a ministry in Southern Ghana which sends a container over periodically. They let us send a pallet of rolled bandages on the last container.  It has not arrived yet, but we hope to be able to send other things over in the future.

There is a need for help getting ID badges for the staff.  This was part of the security recommendations from Samaritan’s Purse. Also there is a problem with the ventilator on one of the anesthesia machines.  We will look into these items.

Dr. Isabella has put together an emergency plan for BMC in case something like the current pandemic occurs there.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
